Worked on

We walked to the dentist yesterday arm in arm, him for cleaning, me for restoration - like two venerable brick buildings.

The dentist, a great master craftsman took me first. If there were ever a justification for high tech, dentistry is it - without which my smile would rest in terminal hibernation.

My smile would rarely be public nor not nearly as evident except perhaps in private for the sole viewing of  my ‘other’ who loves me unconditionally and for my real self.

Without the gifted artistry of the dentist my smile would decay – shock, startle and dismay as opposed to shake, rattle and roll.

Short studies interpreted freely from experience, photos and imagination:

  1. Oh no, blood, leaches, missing body parts. Were these down under the influence of laughing gas? I think they are great and certainly characterize a visit to the dentist office.

    1. Hi Doug
As far as I'm aware I wasn't under the influence of laughing gas but I was probably feeling a bit manic. There was no abuse at all - on the contrary only grooming and repair on the part of the dentist - but the drawings were dashed off and show innumerable inaccuracies, grotesqueries and irreverence in spite of the highest regard I have for them - dentists - that is my dentist. I must seem totally out of character here so I can understand your confusion as to what it was exactly I was trying to do.

    2. Not really confused Marcia just joking with you. I know your dentist would never do that to his customers. Your drawings reminded me of some drawings of old operations during mid evil times. Cartoons really. Again just joking with you and I'm sure your smile is beautiful.

    3. Thank you Doug for writing this.
I am glad you were joking with me as I have a habit of taking myself way too seriously.
I am pleased with my smile and I love cartoons too - New Yorker ones especially.
      Warm hug,
      Marcia

  2. These are great. I guess that's what's happening to my smile -- all of the above. Time to find a good dentist. Although it doesn't look like a relaxing time!!!

    Love,
    Barbara

  3. Thanks Barbara,
Your smile is the greatest! You have one of the warmest, sunniest, kindest smiles going.
I feel abashed that I lack the patience and probably always will to do the kind of meticulous, rational rendering that the subject matter warrants.
If you absolutely have to go to a dentist there's nothing to fear - the discipline of dentistry is at the cutting edge of the highest technology with their ultra precision instruments and space age materials. But oh well, I'd still like to send it up - why not eh?
    Love,
    Marcia

  4. These are all just wonderful drawings and are perfect representations of a visit to the dentist. I think I can hear the drill.

    1. Hi Connie
It’s a treat to have you stop by – as a matter of fact there was a humongous amount of drilling, in fact I can still feel my ear vibrating when I think about it.
Thank you you so much for stopping by!
