An approximation

Looking at oneself is a challenge  in restraint and risk taking, an exercise in detachment and  self involvement. Serious fun but sometimes tinged with a quirkiness, an ambivalence,  a bizarre experience,  daunting really.
In some respects. perhaps the nature of all  exposure is like this.  Of course I don’t pay  myself a model’s fee which is a compensating incentive.
And just because it’s mothers day doesn’t require of me that I take off my artist’s mask. My family allows me that  space and freedom. That is love!

  1. Happy Mother's Day -- a kind family indeed -- and such a beautiful model. We have been hoofing it around New York in a final day panic. Everywhere there are families dressed up for this special day.

A super treat -- like this portrait.

    Love Barbara

  2. Wowza! More please.

These two iterations are stunning and thoughtful.

See how talented you are?! You can work in several mediums AND genre.

I love the dance of light in the second one and the strong red in the first.

I hope you are inspired to paint more of this beautiful model, especially since she is so accommodating.

  6. Hi Barbara
I absolutely do have a kind family and you're a dear, kind friend. I may have overstated my case with regard to restraint and risk taking etc. - I'm apt to do that - I think I may have a bit of a martyr complex - and I think I was also on the verge of coming down with something going around - a virus I think but am now totally recovered.
    love, Marcia

  9. Flora it's a tremendous treat to be praised by you for whom I have the highest regard. If anyone's an artist's artist, it's you dear Flora.
Yes, I did remove one of the portraits - second guessing I think it's called - I was also at the time fighting a nasty flu bug going around which I have since wrestled to the ground.
