Looking at oneself is a challenge in restraint and risk taking, an exercise in detachment and self involvement. Serious fun but sometimes tinged with a quirkiness, an ambivalence, a bizarre experience, daunting really.
In some respects. perhaps the nature of all exposure is like this. Of course I don’t pay myself a model’s fee which is a compensating incentive.
And just because it’s mothers day doesn’t require of me that I take off my artist’s mask. My family allows me that space and freedom. That is love!

Happy Mother's Day -- a kind family indeed -- and such a beautiful model. We have been hoofing it around New York in a final day panic. Everywhere there are families dressed up for this special day.
ReplyDeleteA super treat -- like this portrait.
Love Barbara
Wowza! More please.
ReplyDeleteThese two iterations are stunning and thoughtful.
See how talented you are?! You can work in several mediums AND genre.
I love the dance of light in the second one and the strong red in the first.
I hope you are inspired to paint more of this beautiful model, especially since she is so accommodating.
Absolutely stunning, Marcia! I really love the mood in the 2nd study.
ReplyDeleteMarcia, I am just looking at this stunning, strong portrait today. Wow....what an artist you are - an artist's artist!
ReplyDeleteI missed the first one.....have you taken it down?
I really love how delicate the light is and the softness of the skin tones. A very lovely and beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara
ReplyDeleteI absolutely do have a kind family and you're a dear, kind friend. I may have overstated my case with regard to restraint and risk taking etc. - I'm apt to do that - I think I may have a bit of a martyr complex - and I think I was also on the verge of coming down with something going around - a virus I think but am now totally recovered.
love, Marcia
Dear Melinda!
ReplyDeleteI'm remiss in thanking you for your amazing support and encouragement which is precious to me! Thank you so, so much!
xo Marcia
Nicki thank you so much for your enthusiasm - appreciate that enthusiasm enormously and have been inspired by your recent daily work!

Flora it's a tremendous treat to be praised by you for whom I have the highest regard. If anyone's an artist's artist, it's you dear Flora.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did remove one of the portraits - second guessing I think it's called - I was also at the time fighting a nasty flu bug going around which I have since wrestled to the ground.
Shelley thank you for visiting my blog and leaving such very uplifting comments. I have visited your blog and find your self portraiture both fascinating and very strong!
ReplyDeleteCame across your portraits just now and love this one and the last one. Especially the delicacy they express is very beautiful. Super work, Marcia!
