I have been told that doing one's self portrait in oil is a good way to learn how to handle this difficult medium. Well I can't disagree with that.
I find my husband's observation interesting also, that although neither of these necessarily looks like me, they are still interesting...

ReplyDeleteI really like these self portraits. I think you've caught a gesture and an essence of a moment in front of the easel/mirror. You are very brave to work in self portraiture! I find it unsettling to say the least.

ReplyDeleteI’m trying to be as dispassionate and hard headed as I can when I look in the mirror and back and forth, back and forth between it and canvas. It is some of the best exercise I’m getting these days..

ReplyDeleteThere are times when people, including myself can hear, see and feel the wheels turning in my head. The constriction of thoughts contracting and expanding in order to release themselves are exhausting. And then hardly anything comes out. Do you ever get that feeling?

Ah... I wondered where the self-portrait was hiding! One day I must find one I did of myself (albeit from a photo) and post it to my blog.
